Troubleshooting

Spellchecking Doesn't Work

RoughDraft uses a spellchecker that needs to copy several files to the system folder of your computer (that's "Windows\System" on Window 95, 98 and ME, and "WinNT\System32" on Windows NT). There are a very small number of other programs that use the same spellchecker, and due to the way the spellchecker has been programmed, this means that installing one program can stop another from working (an error containg the phrase "TVSSpell" will appear). These files are called:

Many programs that use this particular spellchecker will simply overwrite these files and you won't know until one of your other programs stops working - potentially very frustrating! I don't want RoughDraft to mess up your system, so it only installs the files if they are not already present. If they are already present, spellchecking won't work (although the rest of the program will).

To Enable Spellchecking in RoughDraft:

Warning: this may cause other programs that use the same spellchecker to stop working (although it must be stressed that most other programs do not use this spellchecker).

  1. Go to your system folder ("Windows\System" on Window 95, 98 and ME, and "WinNT\System32" on Windows NT).
  2. Rename the three files listed above to "old_vspell32.ocx", "old_vspell32.dll" and "old_oc30.dll".
  3. Re-install RoughDraft.
To Re-Enable Spellchecking on Other Programs:

Warning: this will cause the spellchecker in RoughDraft to stop working (although the rest of the program will work fine).

  1. Go to your system folder ("Windows\System" on Window 95, 98 and ME, and "WinNT\System32" on Windows NT).
  2. Find the three files you previously renamed ("old_vspell32.ocx", "old_vspell32.dll" and "old_oc30.dll") and rename them "vpell32.ocx", "vspell32.dll", "oc30.dll" respectively.

I realise that this isn't an ideal state of affairs and I apologise, but this is the only way out of a difficult situation.

Print Preview is Squashed

The Print Preview can appear distorted if Windows is set to have a font size other than "Small Fonts" (the normal setting). To change your Windows font size, use the right mouse button on a blank area of the desktop and select "Properties". In the window that appears select the "Settings" tab and click on the "Advanced" button. Somewhere in here (it can vary depending on your version of Windows) you will find a combo box called "Font size". Change this to read "Small Fonts" and click OK. You will probably have to restart Windows for the settings to take effect.
